The Luminae Commando Chest Rig
is the modern evolution of the classic British Commando chest rig. Inspired by decades of operational use of simple, robust chest rigs by Royal Marines and UK forces, it takes the proven principles of the original NI-style patrol rigs and re-engineers them for today’s multi-role, communications-heavy operations.
Where legacy chest rigs prioritised accessibility, stability, and freedom of movement over belt kit, the Luminae Commando Chest Rig builds on that foundation with modern materials, integrated communications carriage, and modular adaptability. The result is a mission-ready platform designed for contemporary environments while remaining true to the lineage of chest rigs that have served British forces from Northern Ireland patrols through cold weather and maritime operations.
Constructed from genuine Multicam materials, the rig delivers durability, flexibility, and adaptability in the most demanding conditions. It features an integrated triple 5.56 magazine pouch
and two large general-purpose pouches
capable of carrying night vision devices, smoke grenades, a 1 litre Nalgene bottle, gloves, or other essential mission equipment. The GP pouches are fully removable, allowing users to configure the rig to suit their role or personal preference.
On each side of the rig are integrated radio wings with built-in radio sleeves, purpose-built to securely carry an MPU5, PRC-163, PRC-152, or PRC-148
without the need for additional pouches. This reduces bulk, improves balance, and ensures immediate access during comms-heavy operations.
To support arctic and high-altitude environments, the rig can be fitted with Multicam Alpine covers, allowing rapid camouflage adaptation without swapping equipment. Simply attach the covers and continue the mission.
